Louisiana Tech Running Back Boston Scott Gives Inside Look at NFL Draft Process

January 23, 2018

Scott arrived in Ruston, La., as a preferred walk-on in 2013. The Zachary, La., native had zero scholarship offers and redshirted in 2013 before seeing minimal action in 2014. He began turning heads as a redshirt sophomore in 2015 with an 8.1 yards-per-carry average in his first season of significant action. Over his final three seasons, Scott had 1,830 yards on 296 carries, or 6.2 yards per tote.

Top performer: Scott clearly was the second option for Tech through the first four games with just 28 carries. After his 76-yard performance in Week 5 against South Alabama on just six carries, the 5-foot-6, 203-pounder leaped to the front of the running back pack and did not look back. He garnered a career-high three rushing touchdowns at Rice four weeks later. Scott recorded five total 100-yard rushing games, including ending his senior season with four straight 100-yard games, capping it with 20 attempts for 110 yards in Louisiana Tech’s 51-10 win over SMU in the Frisco Bowl Dec. 20.

Louisiana Tech's Boston Scott is the Most Elusive Player You've Never Heard Of

The 5-foot-6, 203-pound senior had zero scholarship four years ago when he joined the Bulldogs as a preferred walk-on from Zachary, La., a small town 100 miles northwest of New Orleans.

"I loved football. I was going to show up, practice hard and, if things turned my way, I would run with it," he said last December.

Things turned his way -- in a big, big way. After registering one carry as a redshirt freshman in 2014, he exploded for an 8.1 yards-per-carry average in 2015. The season-long numbers weren't huge (34 carries for 274 yards, one catch for one yard and zero touchdowns) but he became a weapon for an explosive offense and return specialist (27.9 yards per kickoff return).

#4. BOSTON SCOTT, LOUISIANA TECH

Total Touches/Total Missed Tackles forced/Elusive Rating: 138/37/105.2

Scott’s game is an exciting blend of super quick jump cuts, excellent balance and very strong legs to run through contact. The diminutive Scott may only stand 5-foot-6 but he is a nightmare for defenses in space and can be used effectively in the pass game as well. Scott’s most productive game came against Florida Atlantic when he forced five missed tackles on 19 carries and then forced another three missed tackles as a receiver on five catches. Scott will have value to NFL teams as a player who can create in space.

#8. Boston Scott, Louisiana Tech

Measurements: 5'6", 199 lbs

2016 Stats: 515 rushing yards, 125 receiving yards, six total TDs; 199 kick return yards

It's likely to be a rebuilding year for Louisiana Tech's offense.

Starting QB Ryan Higgins threw for 4,617 yards last season. Wide receivers Trent Taylor (1,803) and Carlos Henderson (1,535) were on the receiving end of most of those yards. But all three of those guys are gone, leaving 5'6" Boston Scott as one of the biggest weapons on the roster.

The Bulldogs do still have starting running back Jarred Craft, which forces us to temper expectations for Scott.
